There are a few different road types in Namibia, the main types being gravel and bitumen. Most roads are well kept, but some gravel roads might be more severe, especially after the rainy season.

Due to the severe conditions of some gravel roads in Namibia, the vehicles are subject to more stress than what they are designed for. Suspensions, tyres and the vehicle body get excessively damaged if correct precautions are not taken. Some vehicles components come loose, the tents for instance are a good example and must be checked regularly. Check whether the brackets holding the tents are tight and that the brackets are not torn or broken. We ask and advise to reduce speeds when travelling the following routes, as well as good planning in terms of time to travel slower:

  • C19 – Sesriem to Solitaire
  • C14 – Solitaire to Walvis Bay
  • C35 – Henties Bay to Uis
  • C27 – Sesriem to Helmeringhausen
  • D2612 – From C35 Twyfelfontein, this road will be travelled at own risk and is not recommended. Rather travel to and from Twyfelfontein via Khorixas on the C35 and C39.

Please reduce speeds on these roads to 60 km/h and where necessary 40 km/h. When travelling from Sesriem/Solitaire to Walvis Bay, you can expect to drive no less than 6 hours if you keep to Aloe 4×4 Car Hire’s request. Please keep this in mind.
